Susana Hidvegi Arango
Susana Hidvegi Arango is a lawyer specializing in financial law (Universidad del Rosario) with an LL.M. in business law and insolvency (UCLA). She is admitted to practice law in Colombia and New York and is an Insol Fellow. She served as Deputy Superintendent for Insolvency Proceedings at the Superintendence of Companies of Colombia (until 2021) and currently advises on corporate insolvency, complex litigation, and arbitration. She represented Colombia at UNCITRAL, Working Group V (Insolvency), contributing to the adoption of the Model Law on Enterprise Group Insolvency (2019) and the Recommendations on a Simplified Insolvency Regime (2021), and continues to serve as an expert in the field. She has worked at leading firms such as Brigard Urrutia (Director of Litigation, Arbitration & Insolvency) and Dechert LLP in New York, and at the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC in Paris. She led the reforms to Colombia’s insolvency framework during the pandemic, which resulted in Decrees 560 and 772 of 2020 and Law 2437 of 2024, introducing out-of-court insolvency procedures, the use of artificial intelligence in court-managed insolvency processes, and a special regime for small businesses. She is a university professor (Rosario, Javeriana, Andes), a consultant for international organizations such as the World Bank, and a frequent speaker at national and international forums. She is a member of leading insolvency associations: IWIRC (Co-Chair for Latin America), INSOL International (Legislation & Regulation Committee, Technical Research Committee, and Latin America Committee), and the International Insolvency Institute (Board for the Implementation of UNCITRAL Model Laws).
