David Sotomonte
David Sotomonte is a lawyer from the Externado University of Colombia and a Specialist in Business Law from the same university. He holds a Master’s Degree in Legal Counseling for Companies (MAJ) from the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain, and a Master’s Degree in Commercial Law (LLM in Commercial Law) from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde in the United Kingdom. He is a research professor at the Externado University of Colombia, where he teaches Corporate Law and Insolvency Proceedings. He has served as an Assistant Justice of the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice; as a lawyer and Acting Coordinator of the Concordat Group at the Superintendence of Companies; and as a lawyer in the Distinctive Signs Fund Group at the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. He is an advisor, consultant, and litigator at the law firm Sotomonte, Sotomonte & Rodríguez Abogados; Director of the academic journal E-Mercatoria of the Externado University of Colombia (www.emercatoria.edu.co); author of several research articles and of the book “Cross-Border Insolvency: Evolution and Current State of the Field.” He is a member of the Colombian and Ibero-American Institutes of Insolvency Law, as well as INSOL INTERNATIONAL. Additionally, he serves as an arbitrator at the conciliation, arbitration, and mediation centers of the Chambers of Commerce of Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali, and Medellín; as an insolvency mediator (in Bogotá, Bucaramanga, and Medellín); and as an ad hoc judge of the Civil-Family Chamber of the Superior Court of the Judicial District of Cundinamarca.
